Overview

When this client wanted to create a Facebook business page from scratch, CU Rocket's team put together an online contest to collect likes and email addresses—without breaking the bank.

Results

CU Rocket's team understands social marketing better than most agencies because we've been designing and executing large-scale social campaigns longer than most people have even had Facebook accounts. This engagement was somewhat unique, though, in that the institution wanted big results, fast, but with a smaller budget.

It's common for us to to build Facebook contests with prizes valued in the thousands, but for this campaign, we decided to offer a $75 Visa gift card to one lucky entrant each week for 5 weeks.

To avoid the need for a substantial promotional budget for the campaign, we implemented a bonus-entry system that encouraged entrants to share the contest with their friends. This system was so successful that the contest generated more entries from shares than from paid promotion.

After only 5 weeks and $375 in total prizes awarded, the campaign had generated over 5,000 Facebook likes and an equivalent number of email addresses that could be used for further nurturing. With a total project budget of $5,000 (some of our Facebook contests generate up to 100,000 new likes with much larger budgets), that's an economical cost-per-lead.
